ALL GOOD THINGS BEGIN WITH COINCIDENCE

In 2009, Executive Chef Indrek Kivisalu and gourmet Helgor Markov made each other’s acquaintance. Indrek was a nationally-recognized chef (personal chef to two Estonian presidents, among other honors), and Helgor supplied hotels and restaurants with meat. Their meeting resulted in a hobby of going around to friends’ houses to cook meals together. Indrek and Helgor led the evening, their friends took part—especially with the eating. The events were a tremendous success and it quickly became clear they needed a bigger room than their friends’ kitchens.

FOODSTUDIO: BORN FROM A LOVE OF FOOD

In the beginning, FoodStudio was a private affair where, from time to time, events were organized to cover the hobby’s expenses. At one point there was enough interest in FoodStudio that it was time for Indrek and Helgor to quit their jobs. Luckily, they were both enthusiastic about venturing out on their own. For the first 12 years, FoodStudio was located on the backstreet of Ahtri in the city center, where a countless number of events for businesses and groups took place. A large variety of international foods were introduced, both traditional and trendy. There were cooking classes and birthday parties.

TODAY’S FOODSTUDIO IN TELLISKIVI  

We can’t confirm the rumor that after a large party the entire Ahtri house had to be razed, but the fact is that that building is no longer standing. In 2022, FoodStudio moved to the main square in the district of Telliskivi, taking with it the concept of good people cooking together. Everything remained the same, except we got more space. Now FoodStudio occupies two floors with floor-to-ceiling windows, an amazing bar, and a majestic staircase your feet simply must experience.

THE SPIRIT OF INDREK AND HELGOR CARRIED FORWARD BY KEN AND JAAN

FoodStudio’s managers are Jaan Liiv and Ken Tiivel.

Jaan has studied under Indrek for five years and is already quietly surpassing him.

Ken is the one who sees (and manages) the big picture. He thinks about the emotions that people experience when they step in the door—and the emotions they take with them.

Jaan and Ken are an invincible pair like Indrek and Helgor but with their own characters. Step inside and we promise an experience that is hard to forget.
